Attending College For Fashion Design And Marketing Might Be A Really Thrilling Vocation Option
I am often astonished to see the how impressive and outlandish the fashion industry has become. For some reason it's hard for me to comprehend people and their complete love for clothes. Don't misunderstand me! I like a decent pair of jeans as much as the next guy, but you won't catch me forking out hundreds of dollars for a pair of pants, or even for plus size coats, which can be high-priced. Forget it. Not that my preferences have any effect on the fashion world whatsoever. Oodles of youthful people are flocking to fashion design and merchandising schools to better learn the industry. Hey, I can not say that I blame them. There is a good deal of money to be made there. I'm pretty sure Tom Ford is starving these days.
When I asked my teenage daughter what area she wished to pursue, she began rambling on about fashion styling and merchandising. Hmm, big surprise! What teenage girl is not interested in the fashion world? And I thought - hey, possibly she can get me a good deal on my plus size coats! As far as i can see, they all go ga-ga over clothes, shoes, and accents. In any case, she began taking a high school course in fashion design and merchandising her senior year. Unfortunately she hated it. Now she is a bit torn about her future plans. She still dreams of a job in the clothing industry, but is naturally worried about regardless of whether she'll like it. I told her to give fashion design and merchandising another shot when she heads off to college next year. And nobody said she had to delve into this specific aspect of the fashion world. There are a few alternatives out there. She could market swimsuits, jeans, evening wear, plus size coats, wedding attire, avant garde fashion...the possibilities are end-less.
It is certainly a rough business. If you really want to see how things work, check out the Style network now and then in order to see true clothing designers in their world. Or you can watch that little reality series "The Hills." Even though the main character in this show has a good deal of money coming in from her folks, she's getting a good dose of the fashion styling and marketing world. You can see her working as an intern for "Teen Vogue" and get an idea of what's expected of her. It's definitely not all glitz and glam from the beginning, but I'm sure any successful clothes designer can tell you that. You have to be willing to work really hard and vie with the many. The best place to start is a highly recommended fashion design school.
