A Married Couple Becomes Alarmed About Their Excessive And Hazardous Drinking And Asks Themselves If They Exhibit Any Signs Of Alcohol Addiction

Angie and Lenny have been married for eight years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have children and so they willfully constructed an incredibly vigorous social life.

The essential problem, it needs to be underscored, is that practically everything they do socially is associated with drinking. For example, all of the happy hours, parties with friends, sporting events, family get-togethers, and dinner engagements they go to somehow include drinking.

If they were moderate drinkers this wouldn't be such a big problem. Given the fact that they drink rather heavily, however, they are starting to observe some apparent alcohol-related problems in their lives.

For example, just three days ago Lenny got a third DWI and has been calling off from work due to alcohol-related health issues. What is more, Lenny's last two or three performance assessments at the office have been less than admirable and he has started to fail to recall what he says or does while he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family has begun to exhibit anxiety about his drinking circumstances.

In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling down in the dumps with life in general and to deal with this, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past seven months. Moreover, Angie has been experiencing a lot of throbbing migraine headaches and experiencing painful hangovers because of her drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling significantly less energetic when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late virtually every Monday, and she has been receiving some unhelpful criticism from her family members, relatives, friends, and coworkers about her excessive and abusive drinking.

One Saturday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie happened upon a captivating program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television special was a real realization to Lenny and Angie because numerous alcohol facts that were emphasized seemed like they were unquestionably related to several of the alcohol related problems Angie and Lenny had been going through.

With thoughts of the TV documentary still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been displaying could be a signal that they are addicted to alcohol or conceivably becoming alcoholic. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they schedule an appointment with one of the physicians at the local drug and alcohol rehab clinic to find out more about the gravity of their drinking situation.

Paradoxically, even though their drinking circumstances hadn't yet changed, it was evident that Angie and Lenny were at least attending to their drinking difficulties, they were eager to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were interested in learning how they could significantly cut down the severity or do away with the alcohol-related issues that had begun to go from bad to worse.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they arrived at a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse treatment facility located just East of the State Capital. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to overcome the drinking difficulties that had developed in their lives, they truly had the most peaceful night's sleep they could remember in the last three months.
